The Australian Government will provide $2 million towards emergency relief efforts in communities affected by floods in North Korea.
To assist relief efforts, Australia, through our international aid agency, AusAID, will contribute $2 million in food aid, which will be distributed by the World Food Programme.
Up to 300,000 people are believed to have been affected by the worst floods in North Korea in a decade.
More than 200 people have died or are missing and at least 30,000 homes have been destroyed leaving more than 63,000 people homeless across the country.
Some 250,000 acres of farmland have been inundated, buried under silt or washed away, destroying more than a tenth of the annual grain harvest.
This assistance is in addition to $4 million in humanitarian assistance for food aid, essential medicines, clean water and sanitation Australia has provided to North Korea in the past year.
Australia will continue to closely monitor emergency needs across the flood zone and stands ready to provide North Korea with further assistance if required.
